Reading Tips

  • Look at how the author had divided the chapter.  Look at the subheadings.
  • When reading two different historians, look for differences in their perspective.  Remember, your teacher assigned these pieces together for a reason!
  • Note italicized words and names in the text.  These are important.
  • Rather than using a highlighter as you read, annotate the text with margin notes which summarize paragraphs or sections.
