For the first time in four years, the varsity boys’ basketball team captured the glory of a CIF Championship, defeating Gahr High School 87-75 Saturday morning at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

Wolverines in 3 State Playoffs Tuesday

Three Wolverine teams play in state playoffs Tuesday at home.

Both the boys' and the girls' varsity basketball teams won CIF championships this weekend. Girls' basketball defeated Pacific Hills, 59-57 Friday and faces Kingburg at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Taper Gymnasium.

After defeating Gahr, 87-75, to capture the CIF Southern Section Championship Saturday, the boys' varsity team will face off with Ridge View High School as the first seed in State Playoffs Tuesday in Taper  at 8 p.m. Ridge View was upset in the CIF Central Section Finals, and are seeded eighth after compiling an 18-8 record.

"We won't really have time to prepare for them after the quick turnaround, Coach Greg Hilliard said. "We just have to hope the momentum from Saturday carries over, and we will mainly focus on improving our own aspects of our game, instead of preparing for them."

Girls' soccer plays Hollywood High at 3 p.m. on Ted Slavin Field. 

Girls' soccer goes down, 2-1, in CIF finals

The CIF championship game ended in defeat Friday night for the girls’ soccer team, which fell to Saugus, 2-1, at Warren High School in Downey. The girls defeated Yucaipa High School 2-1 in the semifinal round of the CIF sectional tournament last Tuesday.
