Tasia Smith ’08 was elected next year’s head prefect last Friday while a runoff election to decide the male head prefect race was held at the upper school Tuesday.
Gaven Lucas ’08 and Wesley Yip ’08, the two boys with the highest number of votes in the general election last week, were put on the ballot again for a runoff because there was no clear majority, Head Prefect Sammy McGowan ’07 said. Freshmen will vote today, and the votes will be counted and the winner declared by fifth period, McGowan said.
The two head prefects are chosen from the senior class to represent the entire student body as heads of Student Government, while each grade also elects 4 class representatives. Juniors will vote for their representatives for next year on Thursday, and the sophomores will vote on Friday. Freshman will vote for their class representatives next week.

ALL PLAY: Seniors John Howe, Raffi Lehrer, Matty Tellem, and Andrew Pattison play Nintendo 64 in the Lounge.
In addition to running elections, members of Student Government are also running daily activities this week for what they’re calling “Best Week Ever.” On Tuesday’s Senior Day, seniors were encouraged to wear old uniforms from elementary school and were treated to a celebration run by parents previewing grad night in the student lounge. Seniors were each given an engraved beer stein and a free ticket to a Dodger game on Monday, May 21 provided by parent and Dodgers owner Frank McCourt (Gaven ’09).
The lounge was limited to seniors that day and filled with board games and a Nintendo 64 by members of Student Government.
“That’s the point of our new positions; that we should be able to multitask. So that’s what we’re doing,” McGowan said.
