Fans stormed the field as the Wolverines defeated local football powerhouse Alemany 24-20 at Homecoming Saturday night.

The Wolverines opened the game with a touchdown as Jackson Ligouri '10 got by Alemany safeties and hauled in a 64-yard pass from quarterback Max Heltzer '11.

However, the momentum was short-lived as on Alemany's first play all-state running back Malcolm Marabel broke an 80-yard touchdown run tying the game at 7.

From there the game was back and forth, with the Wolverines taking a 10-7 lead on their next possession by way of a 49-yard Brian Hentschel '10 field goal.

In the second quarter Marabel broke another big play, this time a 52-yard screen pass from quarterback Vernon Fox.

However despite chances to put the game out of reach, Alemany couldn't pull away from the Wolverines, with two Nicky Firestone interceptions keeping the Wolverines down 14-10 going into half

In the third quarter Ligouri caught another long touchdown pass putting the Wolverines up 17-14, with running back Malcolm Meeks '10 scoring a long touchdown reception of his own, putting Harvard-Westlake up 24-14.

Fox would throw a touchdown pass for Alemany to bring them to within 24-20 but on their final drive corner Mattie Calvert intercepted a Fox pass, putting the game away.

Fans then trampled the fences, storming the field and joined the football players in celebration.

Meeks, whose touchdown ended up being the final difference maker, yelled to the crowd, "That's senior year Homecoming," raising his helmet in triumph.

The football game capped off a full Homecoming day in which the varsity volleyball team beat Notre Dame in three games, field hockey shut out Chaminade 10-0, and water polo fell to Long Beach Wilson.

A fair, sponsored by the Parents Association, featured a ferris wheel, video games, and booths offering hamburgers, pizza, ribs, pad thai, curry, tacos and more.

The morning began with lectures by "beloved teachers" at the middle school campus, continued with a full day of athletic contests, and an alumni reception in Feldman-Horn prior to the varsity kickoff.
