By A.J. Calabrese

Ali Riley ’06 will play midfield for the New Zealand national women’s soccer team in the squad’s first Olympic appearance ever next month in Beijing.

A junior at Stanford University, Riley has already made 19 appearances on the world stage for New Zealand, including in matches against China and Brazil in the Women’s World Cup in 2007.

As a Wolverine, Riley made the All-CIF and All-Mission League teams her senior year and led the girls’ varsity soccer team to a Mission League title and an appearance in the CIF championship game.

Riley is one of three alumni competing in the Beijing games beginning Aug. 8, along with Dara Torres and Peter Hudnut, who will both play for the United States. Torres is a swimmer and Hudnut a water polo player.
