 Austin Sherman ’12 and Evan Stanley ’12 performed with their band Jupiter’s Ring at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival April 26.

Coachella is a three-day festival held in Indio, California. The event features many genres of music including alternative rock, hip hop and electronica.

“It’s amazing,” guitarist Stanley said. “I used to be just playing in my room, and now I’m playing at Coachella.”

There are six members in the band. It started with Sherman, Stanley and Adam Haagen (Windward ’13), who all took piano lessons from the same teacher.

The band’s name came from Haagen, who plays the keyboard, who kept his five-year-old promise to himself that if he ever had a band, it would be named Jupiter’s Ring.

The band’s sound has an alternative and rock feel, but with “a little bit of everything” Sherman said. All of their songs are a collaborative effort, influenced by bands such as the Iggy Pop & The Stooges, Jack Johnson and Radiohead.

The band has played at venues such as the Roxy and Whisky a Go Go.

To prepare for their Coachella performance, they practiced almost every day for three to four hours at a time.
