Alumna leaves admissions for law school in Chicago

Admissions Associate Chantal Kazay ’01 left school employ over the summer to attend law school in the fall semester. She is attending the Loyola University School of Law in Chicago where classes began on Aug. 26.

Kazay initially intended to defer for a year to spend more time working at the school but changed her mind in order to “move forward with [her] dream of one day becoming a lawyer,” she said.
She joined the Admissions Office in 2005 and restructured the Student Ambassador Program during her first year.

Along with her responsibilities in the admissions office, planning schedules and tours, and coordinating the Student Ambassadors Program, Kazay was the coach of the eighth grade middle school girls’ basketball team last year and a member of the Polecat house.

Before joining the Admissions  Office, Kazay, a graduate of NYU, worked at the NYU Office of Admissions.

“My mom told me she sent an e-mail. I knew she was interested in law and I kind of expected it, but it still came as a shock,”  Tiana Woolridge ’11, a basketball player who was on the team Kazay used to coach, said.

“She was very good because she played in college. She gave me advice on basketball.”

Kazay sent out an e-mail on Aug. 6 to all the Student Ambassadors and her eighth grade basketball team announcing her departure.

Kazay’s place will be filled by Michelle Hung ’91, a Westlake graduate.

“I really thought she was going to stay another year but in the end she was excited to start law school,” Head of Admissions Elizabeth Gregory said. “I was really disappointed.”
