Chemistry teacher retires after 25 years

Chemistry teacher Stephen Marsden retired from his teaching post, Head of School Jeanne Huybrechts wrote in an email to faculty in early June.

Marsden told his colleagues that he planned to retire a few months ago, and asked that they keep his plans a secret.

“Steve made it abundantly clear that he wanted to ride out of here with as little acknowledgement as possible,” Huybrechts wrote in the email.

Marsden has taught Chemistry since the merger.

“This may sound hyperbolic, but watching Steve teach was like listening to a beautiful Bach fugue,” Huybrechts said. “His words were the theme; his actions the counterpoint.”
