Harvard-Westlake Model United Nations Conference

You are invited to participate in Harvard-Westlake’s Fourth Annual Model United Nations Conference, which will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2008. The conference will be held from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a provided lunch. HWMUN is designed to provide opportunities for novice delegates as well as stimulating committees for more experienced participants. We will provide at least one committee aimed at new or inexperienced delegates. Harvard-Westlake Model United Nations has always favored a learn-as-you-go approach towards gaining experience in the format and procedures of Model United Nations. It is a great way to set the groundwork for a Model UN program in your school. The registration form (enclosed in this mailing) includes a tally which will help us tailor the conference to the needs of the students attending, whether experienced or novice.

School registration forms should be completed by October 3, 2008, so that we have enough time to organize all delegates into committees and give students time to complete and submit their position papers.  When we receive your registration forms, we will assign you a country. If you are unable to make this deadline, please contact us.

Position papers will be due October 17, 2008.  Delegates must submit a brief position paper on their topics. Please check our website for specific instructions on formatting requirements and committee topics. Position papers must be submitted on time in order to be eligible for research awards.

The dress requirement for this conference, like most Model UN conferences, is western business attire. This means a suit and tie for men and either pants or knee-length skirt with a dress shirt for women.

The cost for a school to attend this conference will be $30, in addition to the $30 cost for each delegate. This will cover a full lunch catered by California Pizza Kitchen and all conference supplies for delegates.

At the end of the conference, awards will be presented in each of the committees.  A gavel will be awarded to the delegate considered by their chair and vice-chair to be the best in the committee.  Additional individual awards will be given to the other top members of each committee.
