Middle School Community Service

Many students enter the school already committed to community service outreach; for others, it is a new road to travel.  Hopefully, by graduation, every student will share the sentiments expressed by an alumna of Harvard-Westlake when she was a ninth grader:

"As we help each other, we gain from each other, grow closer,
and obliterate the barriers which attempt to keep us apart.”

Summer Community Service Outreach

Posted on: Monday, June 01, 2009

Students entering Eighth or Ninth Grade in the fall are welcome to do their community service outreach requirement over the summer.  Please review the summer and year-round site list under our download section.  The first two pages are devoted to suggestions and important guidelines.  In addition to the site list, students may also download our middle school outreach form, a fact sheet on the middle school Humanitas Award criteria, and our current issue of Pathways.

Students who do outreach over the summer should turn in their completed and signed outreach forms by the end of September 2009.

A plea from students to help your local food bank or food pantry

Posted on: Monday, June 01, 2009

Many of our students choose to help food banks and food pantries throughout the greater Los Angeles area.  On behalf of these students, we encourage everyone to consider delivering one bag of basic non-perishable food products to a food bank or pantry this summer.  Sadly, due to the economy, these sites that support low income-families with basic food needs are receiving fewer donations and have far more clients requesting assistance. The site list has a number of these places listed; one may be located near your home.  Please read Pathways article devoted to this topic.
